Alex Taylor
vocoder lorry

The poetry in vocoder lorry is a kind of translation, even as it appears to involve only one language. It draws on homophonic translation: a technique that aims to preserve most closely the sound of the source, rather than a preoccupation with meaning & idiom. Alex Taylor adopts this well-known strategy of a perhaps bygone avant-garde (think the Zukovsky variants of Catullus), & folds it in on itself & himself, delivering translations of his own language with still more of his mother tongue, so holding up a vitally confused linguistic mirror.
